Acorn

I have a thing for Chinese lanterns, I just love the shape, the bright colours and the festive feeling they give.  These are from the China display at Royal Flora Rachapruek just outside Chiang Mai and I wish I could have taken them home with me!

Squirreling about - Chiang Mai

There is something about ferris wheels.  Even when they're sponsored by Chang ;)  Here, the one at Royal Flora Rachapruek.

Squirreling about - Chiang Mai

To go or not to go, that is the question!

The Royal Flora Rachapruek was a flower festival that was held during the end of 2006 and beginning of 2007 in a park outside Chiang Mai.  Since then, it has been open to the public during the high season each year.  I'd heard reports that the quality of the displays have gone down since I was there in 2007 but haven't had a chance to visit until yesterday.

I have to say that I was rather dismayed by all the business sponsored "attractions", not to mention the rather off-putting music that was blaring from the loudspeakers the whole time we were there.  However, the temple was still beautiful and the orchids lovely.  If you do decide to visit, I recommend being there when it opens at 9 am to avoid the midday heat.

How to get there - Rachapruek lies about 8 kms from the center of town.  Take highway 108 southward and follow the signs.
