Squirreling about - Stockholm

Museum weekend!
The Modern Museum in Stockholm is really one of my favourite museums. It is beautifully located on a small island called Skeppsholmen with lovely wives over the city. The permanent collection is excellent and you really can't see it too many times. Right now there is two very interesting temporary shows as well and I couldn't resist a visit. They have a really good retrospective exhibition on the Swedish female artist Hilma af Klint which I really enjoyed. They are also showing Le Corbusier that includes rarely shown sculptures and paintings as well as models and drawings.

Both exhibitions are well worth a visit! Remember to dress warm because winter is back in Stockholm! Burr.

Mood Stockholm is one of the newest shopping malls in Stockholm. I don't really care to much for shopping malls and rather visit independent small shops instead. But I must admit that they have a couple of really good restaurants at Mood Stockholm.

The other day a had a quick lunch at Vigårda , a restaurant serving high quality fast food. I had a veggie burger that was really nice and also reasonable priced. This restaurant seems to be really popular among the local office workers and is really crowded during lunch. Vigårda is a rally nice place to eat at if you happens to be smack in the city centre and just need to get something to eat right away. And just look at that lovely flooring!

I was visiting Hammarby Sjöstad which is a quite new part of Stockholm for work the other day and between meetings I managed to make time for coffee and stumbled upon this lovely place. It is called Fine Food and I really enjoyed both their sandwiches and the interior! I especially liked the little house table! Sweet!

The other day I took a trip to a new art centre situated on Värmdö outside Stockholm called Artipelag.
The building is created by the late Swedish architect Johan Nyrén and comprises 10,000 square meters. So quite big! It is also set in a beautiful landscape and also host some really good art exhibitions. Here you can also find a really good café, design shop and also a restaurant.

I really liked my visit here but it is really huge, so be sure to have plenty of time and money because it is quite expensive here. But the nature is stunning and the house sits really well in the surroundings. Dont forget to go up on the rooftop to enjoy the love views over the water!

You can go there by car, bus or even by boat!

Squirreling about - Stockholm

If you've been to Stockholm or even if you live there, chances are that you may never have come across this little guy.  He's tucked away in a small yard behind the Finnish Church in Gamla Stan, the old part of town.  The sculpture is only 15 cm tall and called Järnpojken, which means "Iron Boy", though sometimes it is also called "Boy who looks at the moon".  Although I don't know the history, I assume it must be good luck to leave money and touch his head because it has been rubbed completely shiny!

We visited Marabouparken in Sundbyberg the other day. Marabouparken was originally a sculpture park for the workers at Marabou chocolate factory. Now it is open for public and there also is an art centre there. As always when looking at art you get hungry and fortunately there is also a nice restaurant with absolutely adorable leopard trays (and good food too). My absolutely favourite thing though was the park and the wonderful tulips! They deserve an entire post for them selves so keep the look out!

A couple of days ago I visited Pärlans Konfektyr, which is a small shop as well as a factory for toffee! Unfortunately I forgot my camera, but I tell you the décor of the shop is adorable. It is decorated in 1930s style and they play lovely swing music, it is really to enter in to an other world! I also think that the toffee is the best I ever tasted, home made with loads of real butter and cream and just the perfect consistence!

No need to leave your sourdough home alone any more! The Urban deli bakery here in Stockholm offers a hotel for your beloved dough and takes care of it while you are on holiday! Even though I don't have the need for that service I went there for "Fika" with a sweet friend and my Italian lemon pie was very nice indeed.

If you ever visit Stockholm I recommend taking a trip to the archipelago! It doesn't matter which one of the island you visit, it is always lovely.  The photos above are from a trip to the island Sandhamn taking place this February celebrating a friends birthday.

Squirreling About - Stockholm

Here are some photos from our Sunday walk in the suburbs of Stockholm. We wandered around "Telefonplan".  This is the location for the old Ericsson telephone factory, now the University College of Arts, Craft and Design.  Behind the old factory you can find  both a really beautiful yellow kindergarten designed by the architectural firm  Tham & Videgård and a lovely play ground called "Lurparken" . If you are interested in architecture and design this is really a lovely place to visit! Especially on a sunny day like this!

Squirreling About - Stockholm

This Sunday we visited a small café close to where we live (outside the city centre of Stockholm). We were just to lazy to go in to the centre and took the subway to station Midsommarkransen on the red line and had a lovely lunch at a café called "Ett skafferi". Translated in to English it would be something like "a Larder". I had a  vegetarian lasagne and my boyfriend tried the chevre and honey sandwich. Both tasted wonderful!

Stockholm Furniture Fair 2012

Today I visited Stockholm Furniture Fair. I really love design and furniture and I try to go every year.  This year I was on the lookout for colour!  I think this is because of the darkness and snow that is surrounding us right now here in Stockholm. Over all it was a lot of wooden furniture, but this is Scandinavia after all! I also really enjoyed the wood mixed with colour or other materials such as metal and cork, that was seen in quite  a few places.  Here are some of my favourites! Enjoy!
