Squirreling about - Chiang Mai

If you ever feel the urge to go for a little trip when in Chiang Mai, I would definitely recommend a visit to the lovely Sala Café outside Mae Rim (about 15 km from Chiang Mai). This is a true oasis for just relaxing and enjoying the amazing mountain views while eating good food and divine dessert in the lovely garden!

Squirreling about - far far away

There is no end to all the great restaurants in Bangkok!
EAT ME restaurant has been around for about 15 years but I have never visited before. I really enjoyed this restaurant and will absolutely come here again! It was really hard to decide what to choose  from the menu, everything sounded delicious and the pasta dish I had was excellent. And for you with a sweet tooth there is also a really good selection of desserts as well. Just look at that flour less chocolate cake!  The interior was also very nice and had that nice felling of Bangkok to it.

Squirreling about - far far away

Chances are one day you will find yourself in the situation needing to book a hotel in Bangkok. This is quite hard if you ask me. Bangkok is a huge city with a lot of tourists and therefore also a lot of hotels. Where to look and what strategy you might ask your self? I have been to Bangkok a few times and I have come to the conclusion that whatever your strategy is, you don't want to hold on to tight to your wallet. Bangkok is a big, noisy, sometime a bit dirty with a lot of traffic and people everywhere but, nevertheless a absolutely wonderful city to visit. Keep this in mind when booking a hotel. You want to stay in a nice hotel where you can relax and feel at home after a long day out and about in the big mango.  I would just stay away from the budget alternatives if I have the chance. And trust me, I have tried quite a few budget options. When it comes to areas I still haven't managed to find a strategy though.

The last time we stayed in Bangkok we booked in LUXX at Silom which we really enjoyed. This is a small design hotel with small but sufficient rooms with a nice wooden bathtub. The bed  was really comfy, the toiletries came in an adorable little box, the breakfast was good and the hotel had lovely staff. In the lobby there is also a library that the guest can use and if you feel like watching a movie the library also includes  plenty of DVDs to take up to your room, if you promise to bring it back :)

LUXX at Silom also has a sister hotel called LUXX XL which we are really keen on trying. Maybe next time?

Ps. Sorry for the blurry photo. Must have been very tired :)

Squirreling about - far far away

Oh, hello beach!
Before we went back to Sweden again we spent New years at Koh Samet just relaxing in the sun and waves. Koh Samet is quite close to Bangkok so it is very convenient if you don't have time to travel further south. Just take the bus or taxi about  three hours south, then jump on a ferry and you are there.

We were staying right at the beach at Ao Cho Grand View  which we really enjoyed. The beach was nice and clean and the water warm and turquoise. This island is packed with little hotels for various budgets, but keep in mind that this island is quite small and it can get quite crowded, you will not get the beach to your self. On the other hand this island is just perfect for relaxing and get some sun on your nose and eating fresh sea food.

Squirreling about - Chiang Mai

I like food, or I like good food. In Chiang Mai there is plenty of choices for really good food and a great dining experience. If you care for some Tapas (I do!) I suggest a visit to Jagajee in Nimmanhaemin. This is a small restaurant where you choose and eat your Tapas at the bar and if you care for some Prosecco, (I do!) this is also available! This is a place to get back to and there is no worries about getting tired of the menu because it changes daily and what ever you do just don't forget to try their cashew nut hummus. I'm still dreaming about that one!

Squirreling about - Chiang Mai

Almost everywhere you turn in Chiang Mai (or probably the rest of Thailand) you either see a Seven Eleven  or a S & P Simply Delicious. OK, you probably see ten Seven Eleven per S&P but any way.

One day the Squirrels had to rest their paws a bit and decided to give it a try and in retrospect we come to the conclusion that their brownies are okay, but what your really want to buy here are ta ready packed cookies. Not for the cookies we may add but for the cute tin packaging, good for storing pretty much anything. S & P also get some credit for cute napkins :)

Squirreling about - Chiang Mai

If you care for a real food experience in Chainag Mai don't forget to visit the restaurant at Tamarind Village . Walk through the gorgeous bamboo tunnel and just relax at a lovely table just beside the pool. The food here is divine and the service is excellent. If you're not on a tight budget staying at the hotel or visiting the SPA  is also a great idea. If you are just passing by and don't have time for dinner just a quick visit to the lobby and one of the exhibitions they usually have there is also well worth a visit.

Photos from a visit to the cool and misty Doi Ang Khang 1400 metres above sea level. We had fantastic almonds, fruits, tea and avocado! This is a wonderful area to visit if you have the chance.

Squirreling about - Chiang Mai

Here are some more photos from NAP that I had forgotten in my camera. Now they are already from last year, but I still think they deserve an post :) I must say that it was quite an successful event and there was real quality design displayed there. This little Squirrel also fell for the cute mini hand painted wood Totoro. Also the packaging is worth mentioning even though a little wrinkled from the walk home in my bag.

Squirreling about - Chiang Mai

This lovely smoothie is photographed at a really good café in the old town here in Chiang Mai called Miss Conery. Unfortunately I seem to totally have forgotten the address, have to get back to you on that one. However it is darling place with nice atmosphere, good food and plenty of little collections to look at. See you there? :)
